The ultimate agent for change
Welcome to issue #6 of Thought Makers.
In writing this issue of Thought Makers, my biggest problem was selecting just what to include from the sheer volume of critical thinking that today’s Thought Maker has produced.
Raw and unfiltered, Seth Godin is one of the most influential marketing thinkers of our generation. His ideas have helped to shape everything from viral marketing campaigns to bestselling books.
The legend that is Seth Godin is the ultimate agent for change.

Seth Godin was born in New York, attended Tufts University, and received a degree in computer science and philosophy. He went on to earn a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
In 1983 Seth worked for Spinnaker Software, known for its non-curriculum based educational software. After quitting his job in 1986, Seth started his own company called Seth Godin Productions. He used $20,000 from savings to start a book packaging business from his studio apartment in New York.
During this time, he met Mark Hurst, who became his business partner in the company Yoyodyne, an online direct marketing company. The company was subsequently sold to Yahoo in 1998 for $30million. Seth became Vice President of Direct Marketing for the Internet giant but resigned in 2000.
He went on to create the content publishing platform Squidoo in 2005, later acquired by HubPages.
Seth is the author of 20 books that have been translated into more than 37 languages. His first book, Permission Marketing (1999), became a bestseller and inspired a generation of marketers to give away their products or services for free in order to attract paying customers. Purple Cow (2003) introduced the notion of creating remarkable things. In 2010, Linchpin became Seth's first hardcover bestseller and outlines ways in which everyone can become indispensable at their jobs. In 2012, The Icarus Deception discusses how the pursuit of success leads us astray, while The Dip describes why almost every new endeavor goes through an "unjumpable" moment when it seems too difficult to continue. His latest book, The Practice: Shipping Creative Work, reminds us that we’re all capable of being creative and making a difference in the world if we show up with the right attitude.
His books are not just an extension of his personality but also a reflection of his character. The way he communicates with people on social media, his blog posts and other content has made him one of the most influential voices in the industry today. He inspires people to be better versions of themselves through his words rather than just giving them advice on how to achieve success in life or business.
In 2015, Seth created the altMBA, a 31-day leadership workshop that has transformed the lives of over 4,800 leaders in more than 90 countries around the world. It helps participants celebrate their shared humanity and develop the skills they need to make meaningful change, and is now the flagship workshop of Akimbo.
20 Books, 37 languages.
Inducted into the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame in 2013, and then again into the Marketing Hall of Fame in 2018. Enough said.

How To Be A Sh*t Leader is a handy pocket guide to becoming the very best at being the worst.
